Arab Nations Add 11 Medals of Day 11 of the Mediterranean Games

Egypt capped a strong run through the handball tournament with a 31–29 victory over Greece in the men's final, securing gold in a closely fought contest.

The Pharaohs had already shown their resilience in the semifinals, edging Algeria 27–25 to book their place in the final. Against Greece, they held their nerve to finish two goals clear and claim another Mediterranean Games title.

Noureldin Zaky put together one of Egypt's standout individual performances of the Games, taking gold in the men's 65kg snatch before returning to the platform for silver in the clean and jerk.

Zaky lifted 133kg in the snatch to finish ahead of Türkiye's Ferdi Hardal, who managed 132kg. In the clean and jerk, he lifted 161kg — just one kilogram short of Italy's Sergio Massidda, who took gold with 162kg.

The double podium finish takes Egypt's medal count to 38, with 12 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze medals at this stage of the Games.

Djamel Sedjati delivered one of the day's biggest athletics performances, winning the men's 800m in 1:46.00.

The Algerian held off Spain's David Barroso Bravo, who finished second in 1:46.35, while Croatia's Marino Bloudek took bronze in 1:46.58. Fellow Algerian Slimane Moula finished fifth in 1:46.72.

For Sedjati, the Mediterranean title adds another international gold to a career that already includes a world silver medal and an Olympic bronze in the 800m.

Karim Bennani completed a comeback against Spain's Alejo Sánchez Quílez to take men's singles tennis gold.

Sánchez took the opening set 6–2, but Bennani turned the match around, winning the second 6–3 before edging the deciding set 4–6 in a tightly contested finish. The Moroccan had reached the final by beating Portugal's Francisco Rocha 6–1, 6–4 in the semifinal.

The title caps an impressive tournament for Bennani and gives Morocco another gold from the tennis courts.

Zaky's second trip to the podium came in the clean and jerk, where his 161kg lift earned him silver.

He was only one kilogram behind Italy's Sergio Massidda, who won with 162kg, while Türkiye's Ferdi Hardal took bronze with 156kg. Zaky had opened the competition by lifting 133kg for gold in the snatch, making him one of Egypt's busiest medalists of the day.

Morocco's U17 women secured a second football bronze for the country in as many days, defeating Slovenia 3–1 in the third-place playoff.

Nessma Mouradi opened the scoring before Anissa Hamdani doubled Morocco's advantage. Laila Boushaba then added a third before Slovenia pulled one back, but Morocco held on comfortably to secure the podium finish.

The result followed the men's U20 team's bronze in the previous day, giving Morocco back-to-back football podium finishes at Taranto 2026.

Algeria bounced back from their semifinal defeat to Egypt to claim handball bronze, beating Portugal 36–33 in the third-place match.

The result gave Algeria a podium finish after their narrow 27–25 semifinal loss to the eventual champions and completed a strong tournament for the Algerian side.

Yasmine Kabbaj secured women's singles tennis bronze after beating Spain's María García Cid 6–3, 6–0 in the medal match.

The Moroccan had pushed eventual champion Noemi Basiletti all the way in the semifinal before losing 7–5, 3–6, 6–2. She returned to the court for the bronze match and produced a much more decisive performance, dropping just three games.

Kaoutar Farkoussi held on for bronze in a tactical women's 10,000m final, finishing in 35:13.57.

Italy's Federica Del Buono produced a late surge to take gold in 35:02.28, overtaking Portugal's Mariana Machado in the closing stages. Farkoussi stayed in the leading group throughout and crossed the line third, just over eight seconds behind the winner.

Souad Elhaddad took bronze in the women's 800m in 2:00.15, finishing behind Croatia's Nina Vuković and Spain's Lorea Ibarzabal Padorno.

Elhaddad was in the mix until the final stages but couldn't match Vuković's finishing kick. The Croatian won in 1:59.63, with Ibarzabal taking silver in 2:00.07.

Eya Aouadi completed the women's 61kg clean and jerk with a 107kg lift to take bronze for Tunisia.

She finished behind Italy's Martina Chiacchio, who won gold with 120kg, and Spain's Maria Olalla Muñoz, who took silver with 112kg. Aouadi's 107kg was enough to give Tunisia another weightlifting medal at the Games.
